and our families in both temporal and spiritual
ways. To provide providently, we must practice the
principles of provident living: joyfully living within
our means, being content with what we have,
avoiding excessive debt, and diligently saving and
preparing for rainy day emergencies. When we
live providently, we can provide for ourselves and
our families and also follow the Savior’s example to
bless and serve others.”

If you can send your letter as an attachment in-
stead of typing it in your email program, it is a lit-

you have trouble, though, please don’t stop send-

them as you have been doing.

Dear Family,
I knew this would a be a busy, crazy month and it was but it was also a month with challenges to many in
the family along with some really special events. But since I am down to the wire...really down to the wire,
Saturday morning of the publishing day, I just want to share with you a Quote from President Harold B.
Lee. There is much going on around us that is discouraging and sometimes scary, so I really appreciated this
and hope it might help others.
"Men may fail in this country, earthquakes may come, seas may heave beyond their bounds, there may be
great drought, disater, and hardship, but this nation, founded on principles laid down by men whom God raised
up, will never fail. This is the cradle of humanity, where life on this earth began in the Garden of Eden. This is
the place of the new Jeruslem. This is the place that the Lord said is favored above all other nations in the all
the world. This is the place where the Savior will come to His Temple. This is the favored land in all the
world. Yes, I repeat, men may fail, but this nation won't fail. I have faith in America; you and I must have faith
in America, if we understand the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are living in a day when we muat
pay heed to these challenges. "I plead with you not to preach pessimism. Preach that this is the greatest coun-
try in all the world. This is the favored land. This is the land of our forefathers. It is the nation that will stand
despite whatever trials or crises it may yet have to pass thorugh." (Ye Are the Light of the World...pages 350-
51)
Last month I got in such a hurry, because I was late, again...I forgot to thank Dennis and Rae Ann for a
great reunion. We had a great time and it was fun to be together. Hopefully, your yard has recuperated and
you too. I bought some of Jerry's root beer as most of you did. I brought one bottle home and forgot
it. Well, Lars found it in the fridge and started to drink it when he realized it was probably a little strong. I
don't think you are supposed to keep home-made rootbeer that long.
Guess I'll try to cover a few of the highlights of the month, there have been so many: It started out with
the trip to Mt Trumbull on the 5th of September... Jeanie, Nancy, Mom and I rode with Gale, Alan and Rinda,
Matt, Russell and LaRisa, in another vehicle and Jerry with Amber and her three oldest kids in his truck. We
stopped at the Hay Rocks, then at the top of the Dugway. It had actually rained in St George the day before
and it was wet as we started out, but Gale said the rain would stop at the line where his range starts and sure
enough it did. But the dust wasn't as bad as I've seen it. We stopped again at Wolfhole and then at the school
house for a rest stop. Then we headed to the cemetary. Both Jerry and I remembered it going straight up
from Aunt Chloe's house, but we took the turn Daddy had us take last year and guess what, the ruts we dug
last year when we got stuck, were still there. Not much changes on the strip. they weren't quite as deep from
people driving over them, but they were there. We proceeded on and on and on...we were taking the scenic
route we decided, but when you've seen a few Cedar trees, you've really seen them all. At this point we were
sure we were going the wrong and and headed back, Jerry was the leader. He took off throuhg a gate, headed
north, I think, and we came to the cemetary. After a visit there we took another road to try to get to Dad's
home place, but it wasn't the right one. We came back, the way we remembered and found the pond Daddy
was baptized in and what was left of Grandma VanLeuven's home (rocks of the foundation) We stopped again
and looked for 'stuff'. Gale let me bring home some of the rocks from her home to use in our backyard. (I
didn't get enough to finish, so we need to make another trip back.) We were getting hungry so headed back to
the schoolhouse. We had lunch and headed home. I don't know about the other vehicles, but there was a lot
of chatter in ours with us three gals in the back seat. It was a g reat day. Then on Sunday, we went to church
with Mom and about 40 of us met for lunch under her carport. The next morning we put Nancy back on the
shuttle for home. It was a choice memory and a fun time to be together as we were the year before. We
missed those who couldn't make it. I hope we'll do it again.
The next weekend was my class reunion. Usually class reunions are just something I go to because I'm on
the committee. But by your 50th it really doesn't matter who you were in high school, or what clothes you
wear, or what you did to earn a living. It's just important that you made it to that point. We've lost 24 mem-
The Larsen Family
Page 6 Close-Knit Family Newsletter
bers of of class (those who went to school with us from the 7th grade on.) that's about 20% of our class. We
have two others that we know of, who are ill with cancer. One was there but the other wasn't able to
come. Elder Holland is our claim to fame and that makes the rest of us pretty equal. It was a fun reunion.
Gale went elk hunting with Milton and Natalie. Natalie had the permit and sure enough, she got one. It had a
big rack of horns on one side, but the other side was different, short and somewhat deformed. Because itis
sooo different, they are having it mounted. It is really unusual.
While Gale was gone hunting, I went out to check the car wash. Usually I take Moma with me, but it was
really hot and so I decided not to take her this time. I got everything done, washed the car, locked up and
went to leave. As I turned the key nothing happened. I couldn't believe it. The motor didn't even make an at-
tempt to start. I felt panicked for a minute. Then I called Zach, thank goodness for cell phones and that I had
mine and the battery wasn't dead. Curtis wasn't home and Zach was tending, but he brought those he was
tending, Savannah and Caleb along with Jacob to help push the car, and they saved my day. They got the car
pushed out of the bay and took me home. They were my knights in shinning armour. Again, I needed help
moving tables at the park for the lunch part of the class reunion. Gale was gone, and Zach was there to bale
me out. I think Zach is going to wish he didn't live so close, so I couldn't call on him so
much.
John and Taylor went Antelope hunting (Bow and Arrow) and got one. They are out again this weekend,
but I can't remember what they are hunting or with what. John does it all, bow and arrow, muzzel loader and
regular rifle. Gale also went out at 6 a.m. this morning with Milton, Mikala and Brandt. Mikala and Brandt have
the permits, they are hunting with rifles, (Deer on Utah Hill)
Yesterday Kera and Clint were married in the St. George Temple. Thursday night we had the dinner in
our back yard, with Gayla in charge with help from Tammy, Natalie and Kristen, then the Temple and recep-
tion last night. Terol and Jeff have worked so hard to get their back yard done and it was beautful, and we
were so blessed with the weather. Thursday night was cool and the wind quit and I'm sure we were all praying
for the same thing on Friday. It was a little hotter, but as the sun went down, what a beautiful evening and the
wind quit again. It was a beatutiful reception, all their stress and worry and hard work paid off. They had a big
crowd and it was a party, just like Kera and Clint wanted. We are grateful to Heavenly Father for the blessings
of this weekend.
Lars and Julianna got here Friday morning and will leave this morning to be home by 3 p.m., but we enjoy
having them even for a few hours. It was great being together in the temple, all of us except Nicholas and
Whitney. That would have made it perfect. I'm grateful for family to pull together and help each other
out. Tammy's gas bill has doubled this last two weeks with all the trips she has made to St. George, then last
night Tammy, Natalie, Victoria, Gayla, Kristen and Julianna just took over all the kitchen duties, Terol didn't
have to worry about that at all and they kicked me out and I really enjoyed visiting with all the people.
Guess I'd better get this sent before Angela prints. Thanks Angela for taking the time to help your Mom
with the newsletter with all else you are doing.
Michael, we pray for you and your Dr to get your treatment worked out. Hope you can start feeling bet-
ter. Evonne, you too are in our prayers that you will continue to recover. And the rest of you also are in our
prayers. Somtimes that prayer list gets pretty long, but how grateful we are to have the blessing of being able
to pray and feel that comfort. We know everyone has stuggles and challenges, and hopefully we can stay
united in helping and caring for each other.
P S Nicholas got to go to the BYU/Oklahoma game. When he called after the game, he could hardly
talk. He was so excited and hoarse. After last week, he may have seen the highlight of the year. We hare
hoping for more great games.
We send out love to each of you

Dear Family,
What a special day for Jeff and Terrol to have Kera and Clint Married in the Temple today. We
wish them happiness and love forever. The highlight of this month for me was to be able to ride to
Mt. Trumble with family (Gale said Alan drives just like Daddy) and wander Daddy's paths, to go to
the cemetary there, wander through the schoolhouse, and to take Mt. Trumble flowers and set them
on His headstone. I can hardly believe that it has been a year since he left us. Never a day goes by
that I don't think of him and see him sitting in his chair. We love and appreciate Mama so much and
Pray for her always to be protected and wrapped in love. We send our love and prayers for Evonne
an Michael. It is so hard to see hard things happen to people that I love and who are gentle and kind
and would never hurt others. We pray for you too.
Michelle and Jared took their motorcycle ride for the year and were so close to Michael and
Cindy they could'nt just go by without stopping. They spent the night with them and got a tour of
their garden of Edan. She also said that watching the movie "Seventeen again" was a lot more fun
with them than with us. We did enjoy our visits with them. What fun they are.
Todd and Anna finally got into their house, after painting and new carpet and minor re-
pairs. They spent all last year in their Washington home renovating and leaving a beautiful home be-
hind, that Todd is worn out. There are more things to be done, but all in time. The kids are in
school and Anna and Strider are now home alone and get a good walk in the mornings He sits and
looks for things to bark at so they have a good time. Todd is having a little trouble with his esopha-
gus again and is on a liquid diet for two months, and then another scope. He has a food alergy so he
will have to have some testing done.
Melissa and Juliann's families both have homes of their own and house payments and the fun thing
is that they will be in the same ward. Juliann and Cody were kept on the string for two months be-
fore the bank decided to say ok. It is in "BurgessVille", behind Leigh hill in Cedar. It has such a nice
feeling and a large backyard ready to be lived in.
Melissa and Chad couldn't even get the bank to return a call on the home they were looking at
and got so discouraged. After weeks of waiting they drove around the corner and saw the same
house plan just up for sale. As it turns out, it was the model home for the area, so it has all the up-
grades and is so much nicer than the first one they looked at and was priced where it should have
been. And in three weeks they signed papers and have started moving in. We are so excited for them
both. It does feel so good having your own home. Collin has started Kindergarten and has an aid
with him through schooltime and has done good so far, but the boys will now be changing schools
on monday. We hope it goes smoothly for them. They live within walking distance so Melissa can
walk with them and give "Big Red" a ride while they go to school.
Tony has just finished up a big case and the other side decided they had better settle because it
was costing them more and they were getting further behind. We were able to be with them in Au-
gust when their Jacob was given the Aronic Priesthood by his father. How grateful we are, once
again to have our loved ones be worthy to perform the ordinances of the gospel. Tina fixed a tastie
meal and it was fun to be with them. Brent and Amy are in the full swing . He coaches "B" football
and Garrett is in football so they run alot. Addie started Kindergarten and thinks life is good. In July
they got their pool in and finished. It is so beautiful. I told Addie I didn't know how to swim and she
told me that when I first get in, if I can't swim to just put out my hand and she will help me. So, I'm
planning on that. How innocent our little ones are and how simple life is to them. They got the gas

tank put in so now the hot tub will be hot. Jay would like to go sit in it a little.
I decided to play pharmacist with Jay's Meds and cut dowm on only one of them. He turned back
into a person. He can walk, talk, eat, his eyes are clear-what a difference. Even it it only lasts for a
little while, at least thats a little while. He still has dementia but most of the time he knows where
he is and where we live. We were able to spend a few days at Jennifers' and suck in the cool air and
enjoy the green everywhere. We were able to watch Tia dance at half-time and take in the younger
girls' soccer games. I forget how much a part of life it was to follow kids activities and I miss it. We
did so enjoy our time there. Jay did have some not so good days but he also has some very good
days. We canned some peaches, and made some bread and pies.
We love you all so dearly and pray for each of you in your trials. Jay wanted me to especially
thank you all for your kindness to him at the reunion. He was very grateful to you as was
I. Sometimes it does get hard and to have kind people around surely makes the load seem lighter. I
am so looking forward to conference, my time to be taken away and wrapped in the spiriit. We pray
that you are all able to enjoy the sessions.
All our love, the Mays'

Dear family,
Our prayer circle has included a few new names. We are always asking Momma or Darlene how
Evonne is doing and Michael. I know that you have helped us along the way and we continue to rely
on the faith of family. Jerry had surgery on Thursday for both of his ears. With the many infections
that he had following the chemo treatments his left ear finally burst and left him with a large hole that
could no long heal itself. So the surgeon took skin grafts from behind his ear on his neck and went in
and repaired the ears. This was a two hour surgery at the hospital and I brought him home that
night. He had a lot of pain that day but it has been minimal in the days following. I've managed to
keep him in bed or near to it for 3 days but today is Sunday and he is still at the church attending to
his new calling as I write this letter. He has been called to be the executive secretary to our new
bishop and he seems really happy. These are such good and noble brethren and he loves to be
around them. They are fun guys too, which helps when your Sunday time extends to 12 hours or
more. Anyway...I'm happy to report that Jerry is back in the game and we're glad to have this behind
us instead of ahead of us. We won't know until 6 to 8 weeks whether or not it will improve his hear-
ing (he can't hear at all from the left ear and the right ear has a great deal of loss as well) but we are
praying that it will. He will probably still need to be fitted with hearing aids but at least this will help
to prevent more serious infection damage. At least thats what we've been told.
I have to say that I'm really worried about this swine flu that we keep hearing about. I sure don't
want Jerry to get it and I worry about where I work with children and lots of germs floating around
that I would be the one to bring it home. I keep reading about the vaccine and the prevention meas-
ures. Everyone seems to be involved and have a plan. I hope that we can all somehow avoid it.
My mother is turning 80 years old this Sunday. My sister will be be with her for a day to cele-
brate and then she is traveling down to be with us next weekend so we can go to the play, Aida out
at Tuacahn theater. We have been thinking for six months about what to give her and we finally
came up with the idea to hook her up to the internet with her computer for a trial basis. My aunt
Roberta Anderson is a real guru with the internet and maybe it will help her to be in contact more
often. Anyway...that's the plan...we'll see how it goes. We kicked out the free renters in her base-
ment about two months ago and got a newlywed couple in there that seems to be working much bet-
ter. They love to do things for her and they are very grateful for the free rent so hopefully this will
be a good thing for both of them.
I went to a school's conference early this week and stayed at Ceasars's Palace in Las Vegas. Num-
ber#1.....it always shocks me to be in the middle of downtown Las Vegas and look around at all the
weird people and #2 I'm amused to see all the people in the casinos who looked so totally bored and
hollow. Is it just me, or do they have just this wasted look. I could hardly wait to get home. One
good thing, Jalyn picked me up and took me out to dinner that night. It was fun to see Chelsea be-
cause she just got her braces off and she was practicing her smile for Picture Day the next day. I got
to go see the dance studio that Brianna attends after school. It was the one that Tina May recom-
mended because she was a student there as a child. I'm so glad that Jalyn is close enough to get to see
more often than her Massachusetts years would allow.
We love you all and wish you happiness in the change of seasons. As they say in the
South....Happy Fall yall!

September 2009
Dear Family,
Maybe if I get started, I will be able to get a whole letter written by the time we need to print.
I am getting better everyday. I am still tired but I don’t have very much pain anymore. Angela took
two Fridays off to take care of me and Charlene. The others check on me and do what needs to be
done. Burton stays close and bought a cordless phone so I can call if I need him. Angela came again
this last weekend to take care of Charlene and me. I am so grateful for all their help. We wouldn’t
ask the ward for help so they brought meals anyway. I never knew for sure when they were coming,
but they always turned up at a good time. No word on the tests yet. I have worn a heart monitor for
a day but don’t know about that yet either. (just got word, My heart is working normal.)
Farming is going well. The cannery canned 1 million 6 hundred and 77 thousand cans of corn
from this farm. That is over 30 thousand cases of 48 cans each. The wheat was a good yield, the on-
ions are lifted and the grain corn will be harvested beginning on Wednesday.
Ben and LeighAnn are staying busy trying to pay bills and Ben is trying to get some schooling. I
think he finally has it figured out. He had an experience with a piece of machinery at work and his
hand tried to go when no hand is supposed to go. He got to see workman’s comp at work. He is
lucky, nothing is broken and the worst part of the whole thing was getting a tetnus shot.
Kyle and Charise are now legal residents of Nebraska. The day Charise went to work, they
became legal. That will cut his tuition in half!! He must be busy, we don’t hear from him much.
We finally found the Lady we talked to a year and a half ago about a device to help Charlene
work a computer and hopefully learn more about communication. We will be able to get the device,
in fact it should come this Friday. In the beginning it was to be given to us after a fund raiser to pay
for them. I don’t know what happened but now we have to find our own sponsor or pay for it our-
selves. It is going to all work out for her, for which we are grateful.
Just talked to Julie and she says they are doing fine. They have torn out a set of stairs and
turned them around so they can take a couple of closets to make a bathroom. Mark’s company has a
new government contract so they will have work for at least a year and a half. And they put their
new turtle outside and it ran away. Maybe it will come home. The boys are doing well in school and
the girls keep Julie busy at home.
Rob is still looking for work, but has passed a test and will soon be invited to interviews so we
are all hopeful, none more than him. Liz is babysitting at a gym for free membership. Their kids are
all in school but Kache, and I think all else is going well.
Shayla and Tyler stay busy with their work and kids. The boys and Kelsie are in school and
Bryson is in preschool. They have had a couple of incidences when Bryson thinks he is big enough to
go where he wants, like his friends who live a ways away. He is being his Mom’s shadow for a few
days. They are trying to get through to him about how dangerous that is.
Angela is busy with school and with school. She is taking three classes along with teaching.
She has even made up a calendar with what is due when so she can keep track of what she is doing.
She has some great parents this year and they are helping her with all her volunteer projects so she
isn’t missing me much especially since she is taking care of me all the time.
I tried to call LaDawn to see what they are doing but no one answered so I will have to make
it up. I know she stays very busy with her two boys and I know the girls are helpful when they are

home. They always do well in school. Jed works and helps at home. I know they bottled some
peaches. Their tree was very full.
I am blessed to have such great children and such good, beautiful grandchildren. They have
taken such good care of Charlene giving me the time to heal. It will still be sometime until I can lift
Char but I have felt good enough to get up and fix her lunch and try to find something she will eat for
breakfast. We do okay until Angela comes in then Charlene wants her.
We finally got the window from the boulder incident fixed today. It got broken before I went
to the hospital. It is nice to have the full light again. We will get new carpet to replace the glass filled
carpet tomorrow. Only part of it is glass filled but that is where Char and I lay. (I knew I was getting
well the day I could lay on the floor again. I like to lay on the floor.)
I spent my alert time thinking about all of you and your trip to Mt Trumball and having cake
and ice cream. Nancy told me maybe when we all get better we can go again. I hope so! I love you
all and appreciate your concern and prayers. I am going to be okay any day.

Michael’s family has been having some fun times together, including the first Michael Alldredge Fam-
ily Reunion. He has been working with his doctor to regulate his medicine so he will feel less tired.
This month, they are also remembering their Teagan who came to their family 11 years ago.
DHLNVCMBSERYIO
Dear Family,
I first want to say how much we enjoyed the reunion. I think that (I forgot last time. It was great!
Thank you Dennis and RaeAnn and family for all the hard work and for all the fun foe us. Your home and
yard are beautiful and very comfortable. We all felt very welcome. Thank you!
I hope it will be as fun next year. I have the campground by Scipio reserved unless we have to change
it for some reason that is where it will be.
I was so thankful to be able to be in St George for the trip to Mt. Trumbul.(I don't even know how to
spell it.) It was a beautiful day and so fun to be with those who were there. I have very few memories of
being there as a child, so it was fun to see and just be there. We had a really good driver and it was fun to
just sit in the back and laugh and talk with my sisters. (We missed Evonne though) When we stopped it
was nice to be able to visit with Jerry and Amber and also Dennis and his family. The birthday party on
Sunday was really nice also. I'm so glad that I was there. I almost bailed at the last minute because my
family was all going to the cabin and Jordon was leaving from there to go to school, but I knew that I was
supposed to be at home. Darlene, thanks for getting me around.
All my little kids are settled in at school. Cami and Jon are in Logan and Jordon is in Rexburg. David
has told Cami that she is having too much fun, but she is studying hard also. Her good friend, Devin will
be leaving on his mission in a couple of weeks, but they have always dated other people and are mostly
just really good friends. It will still be hard for a while.
Jon is busy taking tests to get into graduate school next fall. He go a 100 on the math part, but only
about 1/2 on another part. Now he has to take the physics test. Then he can start applying to
schools. He is the executive secretary in his ward and that takes a lot of his time. He enjoys life most of
the time, but doesn't have as much fun as Cami! Jordon has only been gone a couple of weeks, but he is
enjoying himself and learning lots.
My older kids need to write to let you know what they are doing. Jairus started kindergarten and ani
is in pre school. The little ones are growing and getting smarter by the minute. Cary's kids are doing
good, the baby is crawling and Mikey will soon be 8 and getting baptised. I wish I knew something to say
about each one, but I don't that is why the parents need to write.
A couple of months age, with my kids and Darlene urging me to get tested, I decided it was time for my
yearly check up (Ican never remember if it has been 1 year or 3). The dr found high levels of calcium in
my blood. So he had me come back for another blood test and found high levels of parathyroid
also. With those two levels high it is almost always a benign parathyroid tumor. I went to another dr, a
surgeon, he has done several tests to find which parathyroid is bad. They have found the one that needs
to come out and I will be having surgery on the 29 of September. My colonoscopy and all my other tests
are normal. And this surgery although it is considered major surgery will be so much easier because they
found the right place to opperate. Otherwise they would have had to make a much bigger incision. I will
be in the hospital over night and then shoul be home. I didn't think that I had any symptoms, but when I
found out what the symptoms are, I have a lot of them. Including depression, acid reflux and just not feel-
ing good. All of the things that I have blamed on getting older and being over weight. Those symptoms
could still be caused from getting old and being over weight, but I may feel a whole lot better. I thank all
of you for getting you testing done and encouraging me to do the same. I pray for all of you every day and
hope that you are all feeling better and can get healthy and stay that way. I love you all. Thanks for all
you do.

Dear Family,
I was hoping to get Alan to type the newsletter this month, I am still not typing too well since my
carpal tunnel surgery, but he is out mowing and I don't want to interrupt that! I miss helping with the
yard work too.....dragging the hose around the yard isn't as satisfying as weed eating.
We are doing well, pretty much the same old stuff here. Alan is gearing up for a bad flu sea-
son. He goes to alot of meetings and is real busy with all that. On the 26th they are having a County
Health Fair and doing free flu shots....he will be busy all this week preparing for that.
Over my birthday weekend, he went to Wisconsin with a Washington County delegation who are
preparing to host the Iron Man decathalon in St. George next May. They went out to observe the one
that Madison was hosting. He left on a Friday and was going non-stop till returning on a windy, scarry
flight Monday night. He said that the whole process and organization for the decathalon was amazing.
I had my carpal tunnel surgery on the 10th, my parents took me to St. George for it...I was the last
surgery. The biggest pain for me was to go all day with no water, I get migraines when I get dehy-
drated. So by the time we got to the hospital, I could feel one coming on. Then the nurse couldn't find
my veins, because I needed fluid...so it was a process for them to get an IV going. The surgery was
fast, all the nurses were so kind. I felt immediate relief after waking up...it is wonderful to not have
numb fingers and burning pain. It has been hard to do things one-handed and I'm no good at Junction
for another week. Everyone has helped me alot and my mom really watched out for us while Alan was
gone that weekend.
Alan had his lovely colonoscopy a few weeks ago. A large pollup was removed, but the tests
came back fine, no cancer. The Dr. does want him to have another one in 3 years. It is a relief to have
him all tested. We worry and pray for Michael and all he is going through right now. We pray for
Evonne's continued improvement and are thankful for the good news we heard about her tests.
It is a challenging time for so many, in all aspects of life.
The kids are doing well. Matt and Russ are both playing football. Matt has early morning driver's
Ed, so Risa takes him to school on her way to early seminary. I really appreciate what responsible kids
they are.
Andy and Kenzie are doing well in school.....getting in the groove of homework, work and labs.
We really enjoyed spending the 5th and 6th in St. George. I'm so glad my younger kids were able
to make the trip out on the strip with us to feel the spirit of Trumble, where grandpa loved and talked
about so often. It was a great day. Fun to see the school house and have lunch and watch the clouds
roll in. Not so fun to have a hole put in the tail pipe by a rock flipping as Alan tried to set a land-speed
record back in to St. George! ha. Risa loved how the car sounded, all loud and tough, until we got it
fixed.
Going to church together was special also and it was fun to meet for a quick lunch at grandma's
before we had to head home for Alan to do his last security shift at the resort by Lake Powell (it opens
up soon). Thanks to Darlene for planning it all and for letting us stay at her house. Russ loved passing
the sacrament in grandma's ward....not so with Matt, it stressed him out.
Junction had a so-so Labor day. Not too busy. We are hanging in there, but very worried about
what happens when the North Rim closes and it gets cold. We have enough employees now, and I
have to cut back hours all the time. That is one reason why I finally had the surgery, I've needed it
done for a few years, but could never take a few weeks off after school started because of employee
problems. Now the problem is giving them all the hours they need, when we are so slow.

The big ruckus around Junction for a month or, was whether we change to Pepsi products or stay
with Coke. Pepsi has been working on Alan for a few months and offering great deals...... but our cus-
tomers overwhelming wanted us to stay with Coke. Coke did cut a few deals for us, but I would have
changed, just because Pepsi was so willing to get our business and Coke really didn't act like they
cared. oh well, we are staying. I got tired of hearing people complain and write notes and such. How
funny!
Garrett is doing well. I'm not sure if I will get his K-town newsletter mailed to Evonne in time to
print in the newsletter. But he is still in Indiana and really enjoying the area. He would like us to pray
for new investigators, things are pretty slow right now.
We pray for you all and hope you are staying close to the Lord and letting Him guide you through
these tough times! It is a challenge to remember where real strength comes from.
Love,

Charlene is excited to have

a new computer device

called “Eagle Eyes” that she
can use to run the com-
puter. It will take her a
while to learn to be consis-
tent with it, and that is after
we get better at hooking
her up to it and adjusting the set-
tings for her.
